Hull type: round bilge hull form with a flat run aft, long deep skeg, and flaring topsides forward, characteristic of new england lobster boats. build in wood or "one-off" fiberglass. the wood version is built using conventional strip planking or cold-molded epoxy strip planked with triple laminated wood outer veneer.. Pot luck. the pot luck design brings the renown new england lobster boat within the capabilities of the competent amateur builder. our modern building methods, coupled with proven materials, make building the characteristic round bottomed hull form much easier than traditional methods more suited to professionals.. Indeed, builders around the world are now turning out new models under the lobster boat, lobster yacht, or down east labels. but at the time, more than 50 years ago in maine’s tightly knit boat-building community, it was one of those things that just happened; a genre was launched while everybody was too busy to notice..

We're trying to find some plans for building a downeast-type lobster boat. we want to keep it trailerable, with an 8' beam, so that would put the length somewhere between 24 - 27' we're familiar with the arno day / beale / lowell / holland, etc. boats. we're trying to find plans for a wood planked, round bilge, built-down or semi-built down boat..
